Summary: Responsible for (including but not limited to) the effective management and execution of preventive, corrective, and emergency electrical, instrumentation & automation maintenance; and to ensure goals and KPI’s for HSEC, Production, Maintenance, Quality and Cost are achieved. This position also manages all activities including targets, planning, staffing, cost control and profitability related to Electrical Department. In addition, this role provides strong leadership and mentors team members to operate in a manner consistent with company values. The position role also provides timely and accurate reporting for the area as required. The E&I Superintendent also works with the Process Manager to determine the overall strategy and plans for the department and provides expertise, knowledge and guidance for maintenance related to long-term and short-term planning, scheduling, down day execution, control and management, inventory management, critical spares, parts purchasing, maintenance processes and practices, etc.

  • Manage and ensure all employees are working in compliance with all Company and MSHA safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Manage and ensure all employees and contractors are working in compliance with all standard operating procedures.
  • Manage and ensure that all employees and contractors are certified to execute the tasks/jobs they are assigned.
  • Maintain department compliance with local, state, federal and company standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Keep up to date with mining laws and safety regulations, and issue directives to direct reports to ensure adherence to applicable rules and regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Build an appropriate department team through coaching and development.
  • Ensure that training is provided in accordance with the current and future needs of the department.
  • Coach and mentor department team member growth and development.
  • Ensure professional learning objectives of the department team members are defined and met.
  • Conduct performance reviews; provide feedback and coaching for department team members.
  • Develop and manage the annual departmental budget to support and achieve production cost and cost center goals.
  • Provide input and advice to the Process Manager regarding the development and implementation of the overall department budget.
  • Ensure the effective and timely management and execution of preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance plans, schedules and/or response.
  • Actively participate in the development and execution of long-term and short-term maintenance equipment plans and schedules – to optimize production, improve equipment availability and decrease downtime.
  • Ensure involvement and participation in the implementation and execution of down day planning, review, management and control, and post mortem activities.
  • Manage and control spare parts inventory dollars; inventory levels; critical spares; parts purchasing, etc.
  • Manage vendor and/or contractor services and contracts (as required).
  • Coordinate, review and approve the creation and/or revision of safe work practices, work orders, bills of material, etc.
  • Ensure that the required manpower and equipment are in place to achieve planned activities, while meeting business needs around production costs.
  • Allocate resources and define work plans to ensure activities and requirements are achieved as planned.
  • Establish maintenance targets to ensure processing throughput matches the mining plan / budget and correct or address issues as they arise.
  • Set clear expectations and work objectives which achieve business plans, department and production targets.
  • Spend appropriate time in the field and ensures that critical systems, processes, procedures, controls, methods, risks, etc. are being correctly and uniformly applied and properly managed and used by all teams and personnel.
  • Produce daily, weekly and monthly maintenance reports that monitor progress vs. business objectives and budget.
  • Implement maintenance programs and operations to maximize maintenance efficiency and resources.
  • Implement maintenance operational programs, processes and policies to meet organizational governance requirements and standards. 
  • Identify options and implement actions to adopt best practices for maintenance.
  • Identify potential issues and collaborate with others to prevent, mitigate or resolve these issues in a real-time environment.
  • Investigate and identify options and recommend short and long term projects and approaches to enhance efficiency and cost effectiveness of maintenance operations.
  • Implement initiatives to optimize existing business systems, processes, practices and equipment to improve the overall performance of the function and department.
  • Ensure both long-term and short-term maintenance plans and schedules are reviewed and coordinated with production demands (including Down Day planning and scheduling).
  • Use SAP and Microsoft Office software to enter, update and/or research information.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS Knowledge

  • Extensive Mine Process Operations / Concentrator / Maintenance experience (electrical, instrumentation, automation, etc.)
  • Strong technical background with working knowledge of theories, practices, methods and procedures in mechanical and electrical maintenance and other functions.
  • Completed in-house testing and certifications where required
  • Good understanding and working knowledge of the applicable legislation and regulations for mines and mineral processing plants.
  • SAP experience a plus.

Key Competencies / Skills

  • Minimum of ten years of Electrical Maintenance experience in production execution areas.
  • Minimum of five years of experience at a Supervisor or management level, with hands-on experience in the Electrical, Instrumentation & Automation fields in an industrial environment.
  • Technical background and familiarity with equipment.
  • Problem solving and Root Cause Analysis capabilities.
  • Intermediate computer skills; Microsoft Office, Outlook.
  • SAP experience.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License (must obtain valid Arizona Driver’s License).
  • Able to speak, comprehend, read, and write English.
