Title: HSE Manager – Mining

Location: Western US, flexible

Summary: Our client is a major global company, with a well-established explosives business.

We are helping them to identify an HSE Manager, for their new US operations. This person will develop and recommend improvements to all HSE Management Systems; ensuring adherence to all federal and state regulations.

They will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:

  • Monitor all HSE procedures and recommend strategies to avoid all accidents and implement all health and safety hazards for all sites
  • Prepare all HSE training programs according to required regulations and prepare schedule of all training programs and ensure all employees receive appropriate training and participate in various committee meetings for site
  • Develop and recommend improvements to all quality Management Systems and develop and implement efficient global operations emergency response plans and ensure adherence to all federal and state regulations
  • Provide support to execution of all global operation emergency response plans and manage all emergency situations and design solutions to all issues and design required business tools and execute all HSE procedures and policies
  • Design safety training programs for employee and ensure response to all specific requirements and maintain knowledge of all company safety programs
  • Draft all materials for training programs within required timeframe and carries out any inhouse safety training
  • Draft corporate guidelines for USA HSE and ensures, in accordance with the Corporate guidelines, the implementation, updating, review and auditing of the company HSE Systems
  • Monitor the effective implementation of appropriate Safety and Environment System procedures and provide updates when needed in line with changes in Legislation and company Directives
  • Assist the Commercial, Engineering and Operations Department in their dealings with Clients in all issues related to Health and Safety
  • Conduct internal and external safety audits
  • Conduct accident/incident investigation
  • Carry out analysis of accident/incident statistics, identifying trends and suggesting improvement plans
  • Provide technical support to Senior Management on any safety related subjects
  • Carry out safety audits on Sub-contractors as required
  • Liaise with clients on safety related issues
  • Offer safety related engineering input into new projects and modification programs
  • Perform Risk Assessments
  • Prepare Health and Safety documentation for new tenders
  • Provide safety support and advise, including supervision on preparation of plans and procedures for initial contract start up activities

Qualifications/Experience etc.:

  • Minimum of 10 year’s practical experience in occupational HSE; mining and /or explosives industry background would be ideal
  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and safety or other allied fields
  • Strong knowledge of relevant HSE principles
  • Knowledge of regulatory agency, client and subcontractor HSE requirements
