GENERAL PURPOSE OF THIS JOB

Function as Lead Electrical Engineer to provide engineering designs and support as required by Clients and Company

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

  • Review and analysis of drawings for possible safety and constructability problems prior to issue to clients.
  • Assist Company operations in design of equipment to assist in completing underground work safety and efficiently.

CLIENT FOCUS

  • Design of electrical systems and equipment which incorporate client suggestions and future maintenance requirements
  • Provide client with engineering support and contractor supervision during initial surface and underground construction
  • Provide internal and external clients with engineering solutions in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide electrical design and engineering services on projects involving construction and installation
  • Design of control and instrumentation systems for mine plan equipment and systems
  • Design and specification of drive and related control systems for mine hoists
  • Design and specification of power distribution systems for surface and underground mine plants
  • Assist in the start-up and commissioning of shaft sinking electrical plant, including winches, hoist controls, interlocks and obstructions
  • Assist in electrical estimation of capital and shaft sinking electrical plant costs
  • Co-ordinate the preparation of electrical drawings
  • Prepare specification and procurement packages
  • Provide engineering project management, supplier co-ordination and client communication
  • Co-ordinate the preparation of electrical drawings
  • Checking of engineering drawings
  • Assist contracting group with business development and support, as well as tendering work and estimation
  • Sign and seal electrical drawings for construction purposes
  • Conduct and signoff on the PDR requirements per MOL guidelines
  • Provide backup and support to the Engineering Manager during times of absence or when circumstances dictate

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide management, training and direction of the electrical engineers
  • Provide engineering supervision of onsite construction of electrical installations
  • Provide support to the Design Manager in ensuring drawings are completed on schedule

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering 

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 10 years of engineering design experience in an industrial setting (preferably mining)

CERTIFICATE(S), LICENSE(S), REGISTRATION(S)

  • Registered Professional Engineer

COMPUTER APPLICATIONS USED

  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Microsoft Project
  • AutoCAD

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

  • Planning and forecasting
  • Good Communication skills
  • Ability to work with clients, subcontractors and internally with Engineering, Business Development and Operations (contracting) groups
  • Knowledge mining acts and regulations and the applicable electrical codes
