Our client is a Gold Exploration and Development company. The company began as a private company in 2003 and went public in 2005. The company is currently beginning production and will be producing gold in the fourth quarter of 2011. The Property is 23.5 square miles with significant geophysical targets throughout the holdings. Our client is focused on successful development and operations and is looking forward to strong growth and expansion in the coming years.
Summary:
Our client is currently seeking a Senior Mine Engineer at their West-Central Nevada mine. Perform engineering duties, mine design, assist and support consulting projects, supervising mine contractor as required to provide quality support to operations.
The Senior Mining Engineer position requires practical experience in mining methods, as well as geology, engineering, and surveying. The desired candidate for this position should have 7-10 years of experience in mining operations and minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering. Day-to-day, as well as long term planning must be considered at all times. Good interpersonal skills are required in dealing with staff, mine employees, contractors, landowners, regulatory community and county officials. Applicant must have the ability to multi-task at a significant level, must communicate effectively in both written and verbal terms and must be computer literate.
General Job Duties:
- Develops complex mining plans based on all available geological information to support short and/or long range planning and production goals
- Develop and manage mine, waste dumps and stockpile designs
- Recommends courses of action designed to eliminate potential production problems and to improve safety, operational efficiency, control production costs and protect the environment
- In collaboration with General Manager determine scheduling, manpower, capital and equipment requirements to meet objectives
- Work with geologists in exploration and assist in the engineering phase of developments and operational activities
- Assist in producing detailed ore reserve estimates
- Optimize pit designs and ore reserves to minimize stripping ratio and maximize profit
- Participates in engineering feasibility studies to define proper mining methods, equipment selection, mine site facilities, capital and operating costs, and manpower and production requirements
- Manage applicable capital projects associated with mine.
- Implement methods and equipment to demonstrate continual improvement with respect to costs, quality and production levels or output.
- Manage drilling and blasting activities including contractors for stripping waste
- Daily duties consist of all responsibility involved with the direction of all contract mine employees, drill hole sampling, quality assurance and control, blasting control,
- Must insure compliance with all safety regulations including Federal, State and Company.
- Hold safety meetings, make safety reports, and make work place safety inspections.
- Maintain a very high level of knowledge of all permits pertaining to the property (Mining and Environmental) and comply with all environmental regulations.
- Develop, maintain and implement short and long-term mine plans that provide an ample supply of high quality product in a safe, cost-effective manner.
- Short Term mine planning and scheduling (daily to 3 months).
- Medium term mine planning (6 months to 24 months)
- Review, investigate and develop appropriate recommendations regarding assigned engineering projects.
- Mining engineering work that includes all mine design work (stage pits, cut backs, waste dumps, haul roads, ROM Pads, river diversions, final pit designs etc).
- Provide technical assistance to the optimisation of drill and blast designs.
- Budget preparations and presentations.
- Involvement in the preparation of motivations or applications for new mining projects.
- Provision of technical assistance to mining operations.
- Reporting of key performance indicators (plan and achieved) and analysis of variances to plan/forecasts.
- Work with exploration and mine management to assist in meeting or exceeding plan
- Ensure quality control and quality assurance
- Develop and maintain a good working relationship with all Local, State and Federal agencies associated with the property. (Safety and Environmental)
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering
- 12 or more years mining engineering experience with 5+ years in Gold Sector (preferably in NV)
- Well qualified with 3D Mine Modeling software (Vulcan or 2-4D, MineSight, Surpac Software), advanced excel spreadsheet skills is also a requirement in this role.
- 8-10 years experience in operations and engineering roles of increasing responsibility
- Knowledge on use of resource block models and long term mine planning skills is essential.
- Sound technical skills in open pit mining. Operational skills and experience would be an added advantage.
- Proficient in mine designing, mine planning, scheduling and budgeting. Pit optimization skills would be an added advantage.

- Knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering
- Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
- Able to evaluate and implement new methods and techniques for operational improvement
- Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
