Our client is a privately-owned silver exploration and development company that is seeking a Project Manager for its Mexico based subsidiary. In addition to its large, epithermal, exploration-rich resource in Mexico, the company owns a revitalized and exploration-rich U.S. producer. The combination of these two assets positions the company with a substantial identified endowment and exceptional growth potential.

 

The Mexican subsidiary has accrued a substantial land position in a significant frontier for silver discovery and development; its portfolio includes several wholly-owned drill-ready properties and well-defined exploration targets located in highly prospective geological terrains in a low-risk geo-political jurisdiction. Initial mapping and extensive surface sampling has revealed widespread high grade epithermal mineralization, yet extraordinary blue sky potential remains. Preliminary estimates indicate an extensive silver and polymetallic endowment that the Company is ready to progress along the value chain, with accelerated exploration plans and the development of an underground mine.

 

The Company’s existing exploration team has a well-recognized track record of discovery and development, and its Board consists of leading exploration, mining and other professionals.  The Company’s strategic plan calls for maximizing the value of its existing assets and accelerating the Company’s exploration and production activities.  The Company is well capitalized to pursue these opportunities.  The Company intends to hire additional employees as it accelerates its exploration, development and production activities.

The Mexican subsidiary is seeking an experienced senior manager with both a technical and entrepreneurial background for the position of  Project Manager to work with senior management to implement the strategic business plan, take responsibility for the safe, efficient and legally compliant planning, development, construction and operation of the Company’s Mexican mining assets, and oversee day-to-day operations at the asset to grow the Project into an established, world-class mining operation.  The duties and responsibilities of the successful candidate include:

Management / Leadership

  • Participating as a key member of the management team and assisting with the Company’s strategic technical, exploration, and geology efforts
  • Interfacing and coordinating closely with corporate exploration programs to ensure effective utilization of resources
  • Developing a strong culture of safety and compliance with all regulatory agencies
  • Recruiting, developing and retaining an efficient, world-class operating team capable of optimal exploration and exploitation of the Company’s mining reserves
  • Developing a team consisting of staff engineers, geologists and consultants as required to integrate multiple data sets, enhance data quality and encourage use of state-of-the-art technology to optimize exploration success
  • Selecting, training, developing, leading and mentoring key departmental subordinates to ensure that operational deliverables consistently reach or exceed targets
  • Overseeing and coordinating the Company’s contractors, consultants and business partners in achieving exploration goals and identifying opportunities
  • Ensuring full departmental compliance with corporate community affairs requirements and contributing at a strategic level with the generation and implementation of community and sustainable development policies
  • Providing support for Board meetings and liaising regularly with the CEO, CFO, COO and other senior management on management matters
  • Ensuring timely and effective communication with staff and senior management, through site meetings, summary weekly reports, technical data for press releases and internal technical reports as deemed necessary

 

Technical

  • Assisting in the proposition of exploration and resource development programs, operating plans and policies, schedules and budgets to progress the Company’s Mexican properties to final feasibility and production
  • Coordinating resource and reserve estimations in compliance with all applicable U.S. and Canadian reporting requirements
  • Overseeing the progress of permitting, geology and plant design, keeping senior management and the Board apprised of developments, providing input and making recommendations to senior management and the Board on feasibility studies and the timeline of construction and operations
  • Overseeing the exploration team and working towards the objective of becoming a producing operation
  • With responsibility for a team, manage short, mid and long range underground mine design and planning Reviewing additional land acquisitions for facilities, buffer or exploration
  • Assist in the Direction and implementation of detailed engineering phase – selecting appropriate consultants and service providers
  • Working with permitting team and geology exploration team to ensure timeliness of deliverables to meet project goals and objectives
  • Assist in the selection of a construction firm and operating team
  • Monitoring and reporting performance against budgeted targets
  • Coordinating mine planning and oversee development and operation of underground mine to ensure optimal long term business outcome
  • Establish and maintain (under corporate direction) environmental health, safety and sustainability programs

 

The duties and responsibilities listed above are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.


The successful candidate will possess 15-20 or more years of operating and leadership experience at a Management level, including experience developing and operating underground mines; and preferably with experience in public mining companies in both an exploration and development capacity. This individual will have strong operational, management, implementation and interpersonal skills and will rise to the challenge of working in an early-stage entrepreneurial environment. Prior experience operating in Latin America preferred, and Spanish language skills will be considered an asset.
