Reports to: Director of Site Operations
Summary: Responsible for execution of all geological aspects of the project including mapping, sampling, drilling, special projects and the estimation of Mineral Resources. In order to fulfill the multiple tasks this professional will have a number of geologists reporting to the incumbent.
Position Details:
- Lead and develop the Geology team, ensuring that the team is resourced appropriately to meet the Project requirements.
- Oversee the Core Logging and Sampling process to ensure consistency in sample quality and logging.
- Interpret geological drill data and ensure that drill sections and plans are interpreted accurately and with the rigor required for incorporation into resource estimates.
- Responsible for the management and validation of the geological and assay database and quality control on the sample preparation and assays.
- Responsible for ensuring that drill core and other samples are adequately stored and maintained.
- Liaise with other discipline leaders on the Project to ensure an effective drilling program which delivers results on time and within budgets.
- Responsible for managing the development of mineral resource models at appropriate stages during pre feasibility and feasibility studies.
- Liaise with mining and metallurgical disciplines in the development of a geometallurgical model and provide other high quality geological input to the pre-feasibility and feasibility study work.
- Work with the Technical Operations Managers to ensure effective deployment of Technical resources and services.
- Work with the Project Director and Site Operations Director on the determination of exploration activities to enhance the project’s resources and in defining those activities necessary to identify exploration targets.
- Oversees all field and related geology and exploration activities.
- Responsible for the coordination of external research projects related to geology, structure, mineralization and geo-metallurgy.
Skills and Experience:
- Experience in porphyry copper deposits.
- Track record of successfully leading & developing teams of geologists and other geoscientists.
- Minimum 5 years experience in managing large drill programs.
- Advanced project experience, up to feasibility study stage.
- Significant field experience, preferable (but not essential) in helicopter supported operations in remote Arctic or sub-Arctic locations.
- Good data management skills and experienced in the use of standard geological software would be beneficial. Ideally familiar with ArcGIS/Geosoft/Datamine/Vulcan.
Requirements: BS in Geology or Geological Engineering, with advance degree (MS or Ph.D.) preferred, focused on economic geology with a minimum of 10 years experience. Able to work in physically challenging locations (heat, cold, dust, noise) and travel to remote site locations for meetings and field coordination as necessary.
