General Accountability

Reporting to the Vice President, Mining, the Director, Metallurgy will be responsible for providing project management and senior technical support for base metal operations and development projects by actively working to implement best practice minerals processing circuit design, focusing on all aspects of the process flow for flotation and hydrometallurgy plants. The incumbent will work to support the initiatives of the Operations, Corporate Development and Projects groups.

Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for the implementation and execution of best practice methodologies in ‘brownfields optimization studies’ and in ‘production forecasting studies’ for existing operations.

The Director, Metallurgy will plan and conduct minerals processing design projects that add value to existing operations and new projects. The incumbent will be a site liaison and will be required to communicate actively and extensively with all mining operations.

The Director, Metallurgy will be required to travel to participate in metallurgical audits and reviews and to remain informed of latest site developments.

Extended hours on/off-site will be required from time-to-time.

Responsibilities

Working with a multidisciplinary team, the responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Process modeling and simulation.
  • Application of geo-metallurgical techniques applied for the purposes of forecasting the processibility of future ores
  • Enforcement of Quality Assurance and Quality Control associated with both test work and study outputs.
  • Lead process audits and problem solving sessions for active operations.
  • Act as a site liaison and communicate actively with all operations, to monitor site performance and identify areas for performance improvement.
  • Assist technical managers in the presentation and delivery of training materials for best practice methodologies in minerals processing circuit design, optimization, site surveying and site benchmarking.
  • Champion, through proactive involvement, a mentorship program.

 

Qualifications

The ideal Candidate will be an experienced Metallurgist, with considerable expertise in the hard rock industry.

  • Post-secondary education with a minimum Bachelor’s degree in metallurgy, process or chemical engineering.
  • A minimum 15 years’ industry.  Operational and/or consulting experience is an asset.
  • Ability to take on new challenges and to think outside the box is a requirement.
  • Ability to reason, learn and apply new skills as well as develop innovative solutions to technical challenges, with a strong orientation towards best practices.
  • An inherent ability to validate assumptions and design outputs is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, teach and coach.
  • Adherence to the highest ethical standards, demonstrating accountability, integrity and transparency in actions at all times.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skill.
  • Ability to write complex technical reports and technical papers is a requirement.
  • Proficient in the use and application of industry recognized comminution circuit modeling techniques and software (JKSimMet, CEET or equivalent).
  • Proficient in the use and application of industry recognized flotation circuit modeling techniques and software (JKSimFLOAT, FLEET OR equivalent).
  • Proficient in the use of industry recognized mass balancing techniques and software.
  • Proficient in the use and application of statistical methods.
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to both work well with others and independently.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Knowledge of Spanish is an asset.
  • Ability to travel as required
