Summary:

Responsible for bringing one of Canada’s newest gold development projects from the PEA stage, through feasibility, construction and ultimately into production.  The recently published PEA for the roject, located north of Wawa, Ontario, outlines a nine year mining operation producing an annualized 166,500 ounces of gold per year utilizing open pit mining methods and a conventional 15,000 tpd CIL mill circuit.  The company believes that with additional drilling, the opportunity to significantly expand the scope of this project is considerable.

The work of the Vice President of Operations will involve all aspects of mine development either directly or working through consultants, including health and safety, aboriginal, community, environment and considerations.

The work will be conducted with a high degree of professionalism and ethical standards, building focused, performance based multi-disciplined teams.

Essential responsibilities and duties:

Project Management:

  • Manage the relevant geology, plant design, mine planning, procurement, recruitment, construction, community relations, permitting, and environmental aspects of the mine development.
  • Initiate, plan and execute activities within budget, timeframe, quality standards and project objectives.
  • Maintain a reporting protocol to ensure project status is effectively communicated to executive management and the Board of Directors.
  • Recruiting, developing and retaining an efficient, world class operating team.

 

Technical support:

  • Provide technical oversight and support to all departments as needed.
  • Liaise with internal and external partners to plan and organize project resources.
  • Assemble a project team with personnel qualified to meet the demands of the project and assign duties and responsibilities as the project progresses.
  • Manage short, mid and long range mine design and planning, reviewing additional land acquisitions for facilities, buffer or exploration.
  • Directing and implementing detailed engineering phase – selecting appropriate consultants and service providers.
  • Selecting construction firm and operating contractors/team.
  • Monitoring and reporting performance against budgeted targets.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining engineering discipline or equivalent.
  • Formal project management training and/or demonstration of successfully managed projects.
  • 15 years or more of mine development, engineering and leadership experience, a minimum of 10 years at a senior/Project manager level.

 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities (Preferred):

  • 10+ years of project management experience, preferably in open pit mine development projects.
  • Must have a good sense and solid knowledge of feasibility studies of mine development.
  • Excellent experience in mining evaluation from exploration to operation.
  • A thorough understanding of mining and mine development methods.
  • Must be familiar with Mines Regulation book.
  • Literacy in mine planning software, i.e. GEMS, Minesight, Vulcan, etc.
  • Project planning and scheduling experience.
  • Management experience from both construction and engineering perspectives.
  • Skilled and experience in inspiring and motivating cohesive project teams.
  • Strong managerial skills.
  • Proficient in office software applications
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of project management process.
  • Ability to work under time constraints and adhere to deadlines.
  • Must have the desire to take initiative and work independently.
  • Ability to lead and work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Perseverance and timely good humour.
